Blackpool Football Club and Equity Energies.
Equity Energies started working with Blackpool Football Club back in 2020 and we have helped the club save money and become a more environmentally sustainable club. Using both our energy management and energy efficiency expertise we have helped the club reduce its energy costs and carbon footprint.
Blackpool Football Club is one of the oldest professional clubs in England, having been founded in 1887. The club has played its home games at Bloomfield Road since 1901, with the stadium being developed significantly over the last 120 years. As well as being a football stadium, Bloomfield Road has a 70-room hotel, a restaurant, serviced offices, and conferencing facilities.
The challenge.
Initially, Blackpool asked us to help them with their energy procurement strategy. This was during the COVID-19 pandemic and like many businesses at the time they needed support with not only securing a new energy contract but also managing a significant drop in energy consumption.
As our relationship has developed, we have worked with the club to not only enhance their energy procurement strategy but also help them tackle energy waste and reduce their carbon footprint.
The solution.
The first thing we needed to do was help the club secure a new energy contract during the pandemic. To do this we took part in a competitive tender process. As with all client tenders we undertake, we provided a comprehensive and transparent tender submission, clearly explaining all contract types available to the club. We also provided guidance on which contract would be best for them and their unique energy consumption profile. Our process delivered a six-figure saving for the club at a time when every penny was critical.
In addition to helping the club secure an improved energy contract, we are also committed to helping identify ways to reduce their energy consumption. In 2022 we carried out a full audit of the stadium’s lighting and identified the club could save a significant five-figure sum per annum by installing new LED lighting and our MY ZeERO solution. These projects have been completed, with over 3,500 lights being replaced, and the football club is now benefiting from lower energy costs and a reduced carbon footprint.
In addition to helping the club reduce costs, we have also invested in our partnership with the club and become their official training wear sponsor. We felt that as their official energy and Net Zero, we not only wanted to help them develop a robust energy reduction strategy, future-proof their stadium, and help them become a Net Zero sports organisation but also develop on the pitch too!
“The continued commitment of the team at Equity Energies is helping the Club, and other organisations across the UK, to become more sustainable and to deliver daily progress in reaching Net Zero. We look forward to taking even greater steps forward together in the coming months and years.”
